Halloween Costume Dramas? No Thanks

Halloween Costume Dramas? No Thanks

Is it bad that I have bribed my kids with a trip to the supermarket to buy whatever lollies they want instead of dealing with Halloween costume drama...? I think it's a win-win really...Every year we spend forever going from shop to shop as all three boys get more and more annoyed at the lack of costumes that they like and would actually wear. Sensory issues with scratchy fabric, face paint, wigs and hats all mean that most things get crossed off the list straight away so we all end up frustrate …

Family Fun!

Family Fun!

This weekend I finally managed to take a couple of days off to spend some time with my boys and my mum who was visiting from NZ. After a crazy day at the show on Friday, it was a lovely change to head to the botanical gardens on Saturday. It was a great sensory experience as we explored paths and secret gardens, smelled all of the herbs in the herb gardens (we even found a plant that smelt like pineapple!), walked up and down hills and stairs, saw lots of beautiful, colourful flowers, spotted …

Pick Less Battles

Pick Less Battles

It is actually quite liberating to finally realise that you don't have to 'battle' over every little thing. Taking a step back and thinking about what is really important and letting the other things go can really lower the stress levels. Like who cares if one of my boys eats his dinner upside down on the couch, at least he is eating right...? Or if one of them wants to wear shorts to school on a freezing day, so what? He might be cold or he might be fine but that was his choice and an argument …

Sensory Oasis for Kids Turns 4!

Sensory Oasis for Kids Turns 4!

It's our 4th Birthday today!! It is hard to believe that it has been four years since a conversation with friends around a kitchen table changed my life and set me on the journey of creating Sensory Oasis for Kids. Inspired by my three amazing autistic sons, I used their initials (Sebastian, Oliver and Kobe) to create our name and they became my chief product testers. I worked from my bedroom in between kids naps and running them to therapy appointments and school/kinder. As the website grew, s …

Happy World Smile Day!

Happy World Smile Day!

Celebrate World Smile Day® Friday, October 6, 2017As is well known by now throughout the world Harvey Ball, a commercial artist from Worcester, Massachusetts created the smiley face in 1963. That image went on to become the most recognizable symbol of good will and good cheer on the planet. As the years passed Harvey Ball became concerned about the over-commercialization of his symbol, and how its original meaning and intent had become lost in the constant repetition of the marketplace.&nb …
