Mechanical engineer Richard James first conceived the Slinky in 1943 during a tension coil experiment. Upon accidentally dropping a spring, he observed its peculiar "walking" motion. Two years later, he launched his innovative walking spring toy at Gimbels Department Store during Christmas, and the Slinky instantly sold out. Since its introduction, over 300 million Slinkys have been sold globally.

In 2000, this timeless toy was inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame. The Slinky remains a beloved plaything for children and adults across the globe.
