Description

Wingspan

Wingspan is a competitive, medium-weight, card-driven, engine-building board game. The game was designed by Elizabeth Hargrave and published by Stonemaier Games in 2019, earning the prestigious Kennerspiel des Jahres award in the same year.

In the game, players take on the roles of bird enthusiasts—such as researchers, bird watchers, ornithologists, and collectors—whose objective is to attract the best birds to their network of wildlife preserves. Birds are represented by 170 individually illustrated cards, each providing a unique benefit and extending a chain of powerful combinations within the player's habitats.

Gameplay revolves around three primary actions associated with different habitats:

  1. Gaining food tokens via custom dice in a birdfeeder dice tower
  2. Laying eggs using egg miniatures in a variety of colours
  3. Drawing from hundreds of unique bird cards and playing them

The game evolves over four rounds, and the player with the most points at the end of the rounds wins.

Points are scored based on the birds on their board, objectives achieved during each round and throughout the game, eggs accumulated, food stored on cards, and cards stored under cards.
